Event Production

You’re probably too busy to plan an event, aren’t you? Don’t worry, we do these events much more often than you. Let our combined 50+ years of experience in this arena help simplify the process! From lighting, sound, staging, and the engineers who handle it, to renowned photographers & videographers, to entire event staffing and production; we can be your one stop shop!

Our Management is Greg Chard Enterprises and if we cannot provide a specific request for you, we have a solid network of professionals to assist with any special requests you have.

Emcee's & DJ's

We can easily provide all music and speaking requirements for your entire event, not only during the Be A STAR! show. We have nationally recognized speakers and Emcee’s on our roster who can perform a multitude of events, from inspirational/sales/leadership speaking, to more smooth wedding emceeing, to energetic private party needs. Likewise, we have a multitude of recognized DJ’s to fill in the gaps and add another layer of excitement to your event.

Singing Competitions

One seriously fun way to generate excitement and prosperity is through our hugely successful Singing Battles! Regularly, the Be A Star! show will produce and host large Singing Competitions and have worked with radio stations that include JackFM, KCal-FM, KLOS 99.1 KGGI, X103.9, 99.5The Heat. On a smaller scale, if you want to increase the donations at your charity function, or add another fun element to your wedding or private party, we will create a quick, fun competition to get everyone involved! I want to book BE A STAR! Live (BAS), what should I do?

What is Live Band Karaoke?

For Be A Star!, its different than many bands attempting to do Live Band Karaoke. And despite the word Karaoke in the description, it is anything but regular karaoke. From every instrument solo to all backup vocals, the entire show is LIVE! This is truly impressive seeing as the song list is in excess of 700 hits. No live karaoke band in North America (who plays without tracks) has a bigger song list than us.

Furthermore, let’s clear up a misconception in the industry and with the term “Live Band Karaoke.” Many bands claim to perform “Live” and they also claim to have huge song lists, but in reality; they are using “tracks.” (This is how they can put the lyrics on a monitor.) As soon as you see that, it’s a great indication that they have tracked music. So, unfortunately, they are just like any other Karaoke show; NOT live. We, on the other hand, do NOT use tracks (and our lyrics are on an ipod on a music stand) and we help you out throughout the song; singing backups and counting you in if you get a little lost!

If looking into other Live Band Karaoke shows, simply inquire if they use tracks, or if their music is on a prompter. If they say yes, that is grandmother’s boring ol’ Karaoke. Then hurry back over here, and let’s get you a real show!

Do you have set prices?

In a word, no, and here’s why… Each and every event is unique. So, how can we feel good about charging the same price to clients with completely different needs, events, locations, times of year, etc. There are many elements that go into the price. So, that is why we ask you for to provide as much insight about your event to us before we give you a quote. Some people may not like that, but we believe that if you were to book us for 2000 people at the hottest hotel in Beverly Hills on New Years Eve it should cost you more than booking us on a Monday afternoon in October for your daughter and 50 of her friends on her birthday. That is who we are, and what we stand by.

I didn't love your answer on set pricing, can you speak a bit more on pricing?

We don’t believe in the cost of something. We believe in the value. And we want to create massive value for you first, before we talk about money. And if we cannot get you to see the huge value in bringing us in for your event, then you shouldn’t book us; even it was for $20. We recommend you have a budget in mind, and we will always work with you on it. Sometimes, we can eliminate certain elements if your budget is tight, and other times we can go bring in Alice Cooper (or whomever) to sing with us if you’re looking to wow your guests and have more flexibility in your budget! Again, BAS! is all about you, the client, and what we can create with you…

Where can I see the band perform?

Currently, we are playing primarily throughout Southern California. You can go to our calendar, Facebook page, sign up to be a part of our email list, and/or simply contact us, and we will let you know the nearest show to you!

Does BAS! provide an Emcee?

You better believe it!! Greg Chard is our main Emcee and has been emceeing live events since he was a kid. He also been a TV host, radio personality, sports broadcaster, public service announcer, spokesperson, speaker (corporate and inspirational), and has thousands of performances under his belt! He comes with our show at no additional charge but often is also hired solo to fulfill needs for the remainder of clients’ event

Can I choose the songs we want played at my event?

It’s YOUR event isn’t it! Absolutely! We will send you our song selection and you can literally create playlists from it, just like iTunes!

Is BAS! willing to learn new songs for my event?

Absolutely! We are not afraid of learning and expanding our song list! That said, there are factors that go into us being able to. Give us as much advanced warning as possible, understand it can become an added cost, and remember we are humans not Jukeboxes and not every new song out there can be well duplicated by a band (The Electric DJ music is not easily covered!) We LOVE receiving suggestions for song requests so definitely know what you’d like to hear us play!

Can BAS! help provide other artists/musicians for my event?

Yes! Whether it’s a string section, classical pianist, percussionist, etc. for a portion of your corporate reception or during the cocktail hour after your wedding ceremony or whatever; we can help! Simply, let us know what you are thinking. We feel that as musicians we have a great understanding who would best fit your event! We feel the better musicians we get you, the better the overall event is and the more you will trust, love and refer us!!

Can BAS! bring their own lighting, sound equipment/engineers etc.

Yes we can! Its more of a decision on your part. We can basically facilitate an entire event for you if you’d like. Or you can hire multiple vendors for multiple needs and pay more money usually. Generally, if you utilize the entire BAS! “tool shed,” you will save money over paying for a lighting person, and then a sound engineer, and then a DJ, and an Emcee, and a photographer etc. Let us help simplify your event so you can focus on the fun!

Once I decide I want BAS! for my event, how long before I can book you?

We encourage you to book as soon as you’ve decided! We will book events over a year in advance and it assures that you will get us! The members of the show have multiple bands, and entertainment obligations and we do get requests for the same date all the time! Once you’re locked in, with BAS!, you’ve removed all scheduling conflict issues. We attempt to coordinate all other events around BAS!’s schedule, so your early booking greatly reduces scheduling conflicts and makes it much more likely that all of our regular, “first call” band members will be available for your event.

Can I hold BAS! without a deposit?

Due to high demand, we cannot lock in an event without a deposit. You can hold off on making the deposit for a while and when we receive another legitimate request for the same date, we will give you 24-48 hours to accept our contract and pay the deposit before providing the other client the same opportunity.

Do you accept credit cards?

Heck ya!! This is 1993 right? We can accommodate a multitude of payment options including all major credit cards, cashier checks, money orders, and rolls of nickels!

What will BAS! wear to my event?

What do you want us to wear? We like to keep with the theme of the event. Upon request, we can go as formal as you like. Otherwise, we are interactive and running around and tend to wear stylish, business casual (suits, blazers, bright ties and dress shirts) clothing. Although, if you book us for a themed event, we could be rocking silly glasses with Afros with hot pink pants! We always make sure we discuss this with you in the booking process.

How many breaks does the band take during our event?

We are very flexible when it comes to this. Typically, the band will take three 15-minute breaks during the typical 4-hour event. This means that music sets are approximately 45-minutes in length. That said, for a variety of reasons we have played sets that go much longer and then we take a longer break (but less of them). We often end the event with a longer music set if the party is in full momentum! We are fully capable of going 90+ minutes in one set. We always create the schedule for the specific event.

Will the band provide music during their breaks?

Yes we can! In addition, we work with DJ’s that can be brought in to enhance your whole event too! They play during our breaks and before/after our show.

What if I want BAS! to play over the agreed time on the contract?

Great, it means you are enjoying our show! Your contract will indicate the cost per half hour for overtime. If you decide that you want us to play beyond our contracted time, just let us know by the last planned set at the event. You will be asked to pay for overtime immediately after the event. Happens all the time, so we tend to prepare to go long.

What happens if one of you has an emergency, gets sick and/or is unable to perform?

We will replace him/her with a musician of equal ability. Since we work a lot, we have developed a list of skilled musicians who frequently play with us.

What if the band doesn't show up?

This has never happened. Not in the entire existence of BE A STAR! We take great pride in our reputation as professionals. We are obligated to provide the band by contract.

Also, we wouldn’t have “Our Guarantee” and be thriving like we are, if we weren’t absolute professionals and ran a 100% success rate. (Check “Our Guarantee”)

How much room does BAS! need?

Ideally, the minimum stage size is 12’x20′ and at least 18” high or higher. That said, we have played in rooms that has no stage and we were tucked into a corner or backyard and guests still reported that the show was amazing! The band can also provide staging upon request.

Do I need to provide meals for BAS! during the event?

Need is a strong word. How about, it would be in good taste if you were to provide some form of food if the show is long enough. In many cases, we will agree to something and it will be in your contract. Depending on the event, there are shows where our members day is filled with driving, set-up, waiting to play, playing, teardown, and driving back which will easily exceed 10 hours. A twinkie, ½ an apple, or perhaps a guest or vendor meal will be appreciated!

Is tipping the band appropriate?

Tips are not expected but are definitely appreciated. Think of it like this, if you were at work one day and someone threw $20 on your desk and said “You rock!” how would that make you feel? We’re no different!
